What is World Backup Day?
You may know today as March 31. But around the world, memory-keepers know it as “World Backup Day”.
World Backup Day is an opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of backing up your data and taking measures to protect it. It originated in 2011 when a group of concerned individuals decided to create an event encouraging people to take backing up their data more seriously. Since then, the event has gained significant momentum and has become an annual event that is celebrated worldwide.
Backing up your data essentially means creating a duplicate copy of all your important files, documents, and data and storing them in a secure location. This could be an external hard drive, cloud storage, or any other secure location. Having a backup ensures that even if your primary storage device fails, your data is safe and can be recovered.
Think of an old photo - it’s susceptible to all kinds of damage, but you want to ensure you can see those smiling faces looking back at you for years to come! By having it digitized, you’re backing it up. It just makes sense.
The same should go for your files. Leaving them on your computer is great for a short time, but it’s not a long-term solution, especially for your most important memories!
My primary solution is to use FOREVER permanent cloud storage in addition to having a couple of additional backups on other types of physical storage media. (Be sure to check out the 3-2-1 Backup Plan.) At FOREVER, files are triple-backed up and secure from cyber-attacks, hardware failures, and even time. They will even migrate your file types throughout the years to ensure they’re up-to-date and relevant.
Knowing that my data is safe and can be recovered gives me tremendous peace of mind. I can rest easy knowing that my important files and documents are secure and can be recovered in the event of a disaster.
