How to Select Images for a Photo Book
Here's a few tips to help you select the best images for creating a photo book.
- Start by setting a clear focus or theme for your book. Memory keepers, like myself, value the idea of storytelling so we recommend starting by identifying the main story or narrative you want to convey and then choosing images that capture the essence of that story.
- Limit yourself to a specific number of photos per page or spread to avoid overcrowding the book. And remember, it’s okay to let go of the notion that every photo has to be included. As a designer, I personally like to place a simple page (1 or 2 photos plus extended journaling) next to a busier page (up to 9 photos and just photo captions or no journaling at all.)
- Select the images that are most meaningful and impactful to tell your story beautifully.
Selecting your images is the hardest part of creating a photo book. Narrowing down your focus and staying on your narrative will help you simplify the process. Remember, group shots, selfies, and candids are guaranteed to bring a smile each time you look back through your photo book. When you are finished, you'll find that the good times can be relived over and over again!
